Review: This is a great little machine for travel and outdoor activities! - I am a longtime user of Windows laptops, Android phones, and desertcart Fire tablets. In the planning stages of an international vacation, I decided that I did not want to take a large laptop, nor did I want to use only a phone or tablet for web browsing and communications. This small, ruggedized, and relatively inexpensive Chromebook seemed like the perfect solution for my travel needs, which fall mostly into the categories of casual web browsing for travel and weather information, and the use of Google apps (maps, email, online voice and video comms, file storage). Getting it running was extremely easy, and Wi-Fi and processing power seem perfectly adequate for my needs. Storage is sufficient to accommodate pdf versions of my travel guides and maps for offline use. The charger will work internationally with an inexpensive adapter, and will fast charge our phones as well. This has been a great tech experience with no regrets so far. (I must disclose that I am receiving a warranty extension from ASUS for my feedback. That said, I take my desertcart reviews very seriously. I will report back if I encounter any issues before or during the holiday trip.)
Review: Great on the go computer when working away from home - Really happy with this chromebook. I hooked up a external keyboard mouse and monitor and use it when working remotely away from home and its great. Its a little laggy but not bad. I can remote into work and do software dev and also enjoy all the other internet things I use. The battery life is fantastic. So I can grab it and move to the couch to be closer to my dad and show him things online. You will need a HDMI to usb converter to use a external monitor. And it only works on the one port on the right hand side. I also logged in with my home google account and its very much like being at home away from home.

A: This laptop does not run Windows. It has ChromeOS, which is based on Linux. It is very easy to use, and fine for casual browsing and using the Google apps. The down side is you cannot install Microsoft or Windows apps. I have a Windows machine for work, but I love the Chromebook for travel. Think of doing Android phone-like things but with a larger screen and keyboard.

Only thing I would have done differently is purchased the extra updates for Microsoft you can have them download already on there . You will have to download Microsoft word etc . Pretty basic Google chrome laptop. I purchased a wireless mouse as well and am glad I did because it functions much smoother with it. Durability and rubber bumper makes it feel safer in my hands. Spill proof is a plus for a busy atmosphere. A good starter laptop. Price was fair sale.
