The directions recommended pulling or prying off the top zipper guards, which I couldn’t manage to do with pliers, so I just made a little snip between the top teeth with my scissors and then sewed them shut when I was done. There are a limited number of zipper pulls in the kit, so I had to use a black one rather than silver on my fleece, but it was much cheaper than replacement cost or the $45 I was quoted by a seamstress to replace the entire zipper.

**Q: Does this repair kit work on metal zippers?**
A: Yes. I have used this repair kit on a couple of zippers now, both metal and nylon, and it is really easy to use, has easy to follow instructions and is well worth the money for the garments I have saved.

**Q: Slider is broken on a jacket with a small tooth nylon zipper. How do I get the new slider onto the already sewn on zipper?**
A: If the top stop is a small metal clip, then it can be pried apart with a small screwdriver and clamped back after with a pair of needle nose pliers.  If the top stop is a molded nylon stop, then use a file or a pair of diagonal cutters to get rid of the little nubs that prevent the slider from coming off.  After, use a small knife to cut a little groove on the side of the top stop and then use needle and thread to wrap a few lines around the stop.  This will serve the same function as the removed nubs.  Follow with a drop of Krazy Glue on the thread to harden it.

**Q: does this work with Columbia fleece?**
A: The fleece has no bearing on the parts you may need replaced  zippers are metal, plastic or nylon and that's what should match to the repair kit. . I am assuming the zipper you have in the fleece vest or jacket is plastic #5 for which the metal kit may not be what you are looking for.

**Q: What colors are the replacement sliders?**
A: In my kit the 3mm nylon coil ones are silver, the 4.5mm metal tooth ones are gold colored, the 5mm plastic tooth sliders are black, and the 5mm metal tooth sliders are a dull brass color.

This zipper repair kit worked perfectly, but I wish there were more stoppers included - enough to match the amount of zipper provided (i.e. two per zipper head) would have made the most sense. Even so, I bought it to repair a defective zipper head on a brand-new pair of jeans (bought on clearance, not worth return/replacement hassle) that would just slide down on its own, and it did the trick!
