With the 1873 Dutch Oven, you’re in total control. Crafted from our unique German enameled iron, this Dutch oven is 30% lighter, thinner, and less brittle than cast iron. Our German enameled iron heats faster and more evenly than cast iron, which lets you dial in the perfect temperature for any meal. The 1873 Dutch oven is finished with a smooth GlazeGuard surface, which is fused directly to the body and creates a bond that’s more chip-resistant than enameled cast iron. Oven safe up to 600°F. Hand wash only.

Review: Dream pot! Best Dutch oven I've found. - This cast iron Dutch oven cooking pot is actually better than a really expensive and heavy one. There is no reason why I would need or want a $400 pot when I can have this one, which is made in Germany, and of very good quality, and much lighter. Lighter doesn't mean cheaply made; the iron is harder than what other Dutch ovens are made of, and heats up faster. The enamel is thick and fused onto the iron, so it remains sealed from the liquid in the pot. Other Dutch ovens are just coated with enamel, so if it gets a chip or a scratch, it’s usually the beginning of the end, because liquid begins to seep in and separate the enamel from the cast iron. Not so with this pot. There are many cast iron Dutch ovens for sale that are heavy, but are still cheapies made in China, and many of them cost as much as this one. It also has a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The pot is so beautiful, I leave it out on my stovetop so I can look at it. I got the Azure Blue, 5.3 Quarts, a generous size for making quite a large quantity of food (unless you are cooking for a lot of people; then you might want the bigger one). I really love this pot and was so happy to have come across it, finally, after hours of searching online for a good quality Dutch oven at a reasonable price. It looks exactly like in the product photos here, so I didn't see any need to attach photos.

**Q: How is it baking bread?**
A: When baking bread, preheat the dutch oven with the lid on in the oven (around 450F).  Meanwhile have the bread rising in a bowl, lined with parchment paper.  When the dutch oven is preheated and the bread risen to your satisfaction, just lift the bread with the paper and place in the dutch oven.  Put on the lid and bake (I bake 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake 10-15 minutes more).  No sticking and the bread pops right out of the parchment paper.  Also, a bonus is your dutch oven stays very clean, with only a light wash needed.

This cast iron Dutch oven cooking pot is actually better than a really expensive and heavy one. There is no reason why I would need or want a $400 pot when I can have this one, which is made in Germany, and of very good quality, and much lighter. Why didn't I know about this brand sooner? Move over Le Creuset, Merten and Storck is here. The pots are beautiful, they cook perfectly, and they come out clean and shiny. Truly excited to receive my new Merten & Storck Dutch Oven. Everything about this product is thoughtfully crafted. The master carton is bold and stylish. I couldn't wait to open the box. The Red Lava color is rich, bold and lavish. The quality is exceptional. Truly lightweight and easy to use. Made Angel Hair pasta with shrimp, and scallops. Able to sauté garlic without burning or sticking and with very little olive oil. Quick and even heating made the seafood rich with flavor and not overcooked. I able to add 1 pound of cooked angel hair pasta to the pot. Great cooking experience. Served meal right from the pot. Didn't have to transfer to another bowl. The easiest cleanup. I can't wait to make my next meal!
