## Overview

Preservation Solutions Pentacryl Wood Stabilizer is a 1-gallon, non-toxic solution designed to drastically reduce wood drying time by up to 90% by displacing moisture within wood fibers. It preserves the wood’s natural appearance without staining, lubricates tools during use, and can be applied via immersion, brushing, or spraying, making it an essential upgrade for woodworkers seeking faster, smoother, and more reliable drying results.

## Description

Carving or turning green wood is certainly faster and easier than working with dry stock. But sometimes the extra work involved with slowly and carefully drying the wood to avoid checking hardly seems worth the trouble. Not any more! Pentacryl is a revolutionary new product that combats the negative effects of drying by displacing water and moisture in the wood fibers. Your wood will dry quicker and more evenly, and the Pentacryl residue even lubricates your tools as you work. This non-toxic solution doesnt stain the wood or affect finishing in any manner. The recommended method of application is total immersion, but the product can also be brushed or sprayed. Compared to the traditional wax coating method, youll find the drying time reduced by as much as 90 with Pentacryl. On average, a green 6" x 6" x 2" bowl blank would absorb 2 ounces of solution, be fully saturated in a week, and, if turned thin, dry in about three weeks.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have wood slices that I’d like to keep outside and for the wood to last. Is this the right product?**
A: this product is more to prevent cracking as the wood dries. It will definitely have a positive effect, and help the wood to resist the negative effects of water, but it won’t seal the wood from water penetration. It may retard penetration but not prevent. You need to seal the wood for that to happen. Oil based paints are good. Epoxy resins are really good and durable and long lasting. Drying oils such as linseed oil, tung oil, walnut oil, or even grape oil will cure and harden and seal the wood if applied in multiple super thin coats (about as thin as you can get them really). Varnish is good. All of these are achieving the same thing in almost exactly the same thing. They won’t stabilize the wood or effect the wood in any other at that blocking from penetrating into the wood. Other than changing/darkening the color a little (or a lot as in the case of paint). This stuff is great but it’s expensive so you should only use it for what it’s for, when you have to use it. Which is when you are dealing with green wood that is liable to check and split and crack all to heck, such as cookies cut a 90° to the grain. Anything end grain that hasn’t had the tension relieved in it is gonna want it crack and the thinner it is, the harder to stop. If it’s a really bit cookie and it’s super thin, it’s gonna be darn near impossible but if you steam it real good and then soak the mess out of it in this stuff, and then dry it super slow in pile of sawdust partially covered but still partially uncovered so it doesn’t overheat and so it gets some ventilation and can slowly dry out, you can do it. Barely. If you are lucky and don’t rush it and you got the Pentacryl good and penetrated all the way deep. If you think the cool okie is even thinking about splitting, take it and steam it real good again and reapply some more Pentacryl afterwards to make sure it’s in there good. It won’t take much when you reapply compared to the first time. Not even close. So don’t worry about needing to spend a bunch more $$$ if you do this. The steaming is crucial to allow the wood to relieve itself a little while it is drying. (It’s kinda similar to annealing, for y’all metal working type folks out there.)

**Q: Can this item Pentacryl wood staibilzer be shipped to Australia every time I try to order some I get knocked back , if so how much for a 1 gallon Bott**
A: Pentacryl is non-toxic and not regulated so there are no shipping restrictions to ship it via ground or air.
Preservation Solutions, LLC

**Q: How does this differ from "Log and Beam Treatment"? I am trying to keep logs fresh for future carving - without cracking. Which product is better?**
A: You need to use log and beam as this is an exterior sealer that locks the moisture inside. This and proper storage will keep your logs from cracking.
Pentacryl is a moisture replacement and fills the pores to keep wood from cracking. You wouldn’t be able to get the proper penetration to preserve the logs.

**Q: what is the difference from food grade mineral oil**
A: Pentacryl is a green wood stabilizer. It significantly reduces cracking and checking as the wood dries. It is applied to raw wood right after being cut and soaks all the way into the wood to stabilize it as it dries.

Mineral oil (food grade or not) is a sealer or finish and is applied to wood (including Pentacryl treated wood) once the wood has dried. Mineral Oil just treats the surface of the wood - it gives it a finished look.
