If you've never done a 40 days of prayer and fasting, I still recommend starting with Book 4 ("to Revive your relationship with God"), but this one is a close second. This book is made for those persons who are weary and struggling, trying to determine what matters vs. what doesn't. Trying to clear out the noise in their heads to hear the voice of the Lord. There is something about prayer. And when you have a focused plan and do it as intended, it is POWERFUL. I've done 1 full 40 days and am attempting to complete a second now with this book, I'm telling you, the focused praying will change your entire life and your perspective on the Lord, the Holy Spirit, and even your purpose. God will transform everything about you if you want Him to, if you let Him. IMHO what makes this book(and the series) work is having a prayer partner and going through the book with that person. I started reading it alone and it did not have meaning for me until I began to share it as he instructs in the introduction and manual. Very wonderful book. I must say that I was disappointed at the end - what next- that rather than recommend some evangelical outreach or spiritual sharing; he recommended purchasing his next book. I think this is a major fail and really rather spiritually offensive. What a lost opportunity! So three books later, many are saying - still now what? I kept purchasing and reading the series to keep up with my prayer group. Later in his series, he begins to repeat what he has repeated in the first book, and you may find that you object to some of the conclusions that he begins to make. I think this first book is really a useful spiritual tune-up, and maybe he should have stopped here.
