We are using this filter in our hd200-c unit. **Q: why does the title say 5 micron?** A: Micron filters remove dirt, debris, and even microscopic particles from water. The pore size of a filter cartridge is measured in microns. The smaller the micron rating, the finer the particulate removed. 5 microns is good as far as a pre-filter for water softening units as it will remove (filter-out) all particles larger that 5 microns. A smaller micron will remove bacteria but it will also mean a lot nore resistance to water flow. Since most cities treat the water with chlorine 5 microns is sufficient to remove most particles without obstruction. This pleated filter has worked very well with excellent removal and a good service length. We changed it out after 3 months and while we could have likely used it longer, we had begun to see a slight drop in water flow. We have tried other filters and this one seems to give the best balance between service length and particulate removal.
