I got them used for $10 because the box was damaged. The plates are not damaged.They are a deep yellow color and have a substantial weight to them. The raised edges are good if you are eating a meal with a bit of sauce or gravy but don't want to use a bowl.I needed new sandwich plates because my 5 year old wheat straw plates now have light speckles on them. It's time to move on. These stoneware plates are microwave safe and will last for a very long time. But I do love these red RR plates, especially the smaller, salad plates. The high edges on both plates are really great for microwaving, holding the food inside like a sort of shallow bowl. The salad plates have been my go-to plates for anything but a large meal. i ordered a second set and have eight constantly rotating in and out of the dishwasher.The full sized dinner plates are great, very solid without being too heavy as some solid stonewear type plates are. Best of all, it nests perfectly with my high-tech microwave cover, by Nordic Ware, the best kitchen aide I've ever purchased. {heats slowly with steam building up inside cover and moistening food, with enough steam escaping through round vent hole in top}I can't speak to durability outside of the 3-4 months I've owned them, but they seem sturdy and I've only had one small chip on one plate, but that came from a pretty hard rap against the side of the sink. I use the red RR coffee cups, which complement the two sizes of plates and one cereal type bowl.One thing I noticed myself doing a couple of years ago was falling in love with the color red in a kitchen.
