It leaves the hair a little bit sticky, but not enough to bother me personally. Just a slight amount of pull when you run your hands through it. I've used it on it's own when going for a more natural messy textured look, and also as a prestyler with wax after, followed by hairspray to help any up-do styles hold all day. I've used it almost everyday since purchase, and There is still about 1/4 left.
