The result: The finger pressure sliding of the extended racks now became metal-to-metal jamming and screeching when attempting to use either. As replacing both racks was over $600, I tried using a couple of lubricants. But I learned - as other reviewers have - that these tend to emit a mechanical odor and begin to fail as temperatures exceed 400 F. Both racks were shot. Or so I thought. As a last resort I tried this expensive Krytox grease. Problem solved. I applied about 0.1 oz to the rails and bearings housing of each rack, slid them back and forth a few times to work the grease in and put them to the test. Both racks operate as good as new, and have been in daily use for 2 months now. No odor. No failure. Everything still performs as expected. I've not had to apply any more grease, and still have half of the tube remaining.
