Review: Works good for Time Machine on Mac Tahoe 26.2 - Works great for the Time Machine backups on Mac Tahoe 26.2. Easy to setup by following their quick start guide and downloading the software. I had to do two firmware updates before using it; took about 30 minutes. Downloaded the owners manual and it easily walked me through setting up the Time Machine backup. First backup takes a few hours. Accessing the drive via Finder is easy and drive is very fast. I've got it plugged into my Xfinity cable modem with the supplied cable. The drive offers more than I need. I'm not doing the web access or iPhone connection. Noisy when doing the backup. Fits nicely on the desk. Hope it will have a long life like my Mac AirPorts. Going to run both the Buffalo and AirPorts for a bit to make sure all is well and until Mac stops supporting the AirPorts.
Review: Great Bang for the buck - This NAS device is a great deal for the storage amount but setting up can be difficult if your not good with computers. Pros- Very small so it can fit almost anywhere, You can easily flash your data onto a flash drive or even turn the flashdrive into an external storage device which is what I did. quiet and all it does Is hum because of the hard drive, comes with what looks to be a 5 foot ethernet cable (reads at 1 gigabit) so it's an all in one (I either didn't see were it said it came with one or it didn't say it and I bought a 25 foot cable) Cons- minimal aio, I cant seem it find a switch or button to remove the drive so if it fails you loose the entire system. What you get- ●The NAS device ●Looks like 5 foot ethernet cable (1 gigabit) ●Decently long power cable ●Old disk for software (if you dont have a disk drive you can look up the buffalo software download and get it there for free) ●unuseful Manuel for those without a disk drive and an iPhone (very disappointed about because I dont have either and had to do it all by myself without much help) ●It come very well packaged so if its delivered in the rain or gets kicked around a bit it will still be in perfect condition. --- The software is quite user friendly but be aware that once you get on it you must change the permissions because everyone including admin has no privileges. To connect your NAS after it's on and you know your IP address (for windows) Go to your home screen, click files, go to add drive which should show at the top of the files window and then type \\*IP address*\share No spaces Then it should show

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone use this successfully as a Plex media server?**
A: To clarify, this can absolutely be used as storage for the media you host on a plex server but you will need to run the plex server on another device. Kind of Similar to DC Mike's setup; I have a an old AMD PC that hosts my plex server (Athlon x2 4400+, 8gb DDR2, and Radeon HD 6870 *can't remember if video card helps with plex decoding at all, but it's there anyway and has no other use to me) I do have a couple TB worth of media on HDDs in that box but the majority of my data is on similar NAS devices like this buffalo Linkstation. Literally any USB external or NAS drive can host media for a Plex server with extremely little chance of limited performance. The limiting factor in Plex performance comes with the capability of the computer hosting the server to decode and encode media to play on the device you're trying to stream to (for instance, accessing your plex server from another pc takes much fewer resources than on your ipad would require because the server pc has to reencode the media to a format that iOS can utilize) and, in the case of remote streaming, your internet connection. The 10+ year old pc I described can stream multiple 1080p video remotely with no visible lag and I've tried as much as 7 local network 1080p streams and had not issue there.tl;dr - This can host all of your music, video, pictures for a plex server to access but not run the plex server itself.

**Q: 3 questions: does it by default appear in windows 10 pro file manager? can the contents be encrypted? can i directly copy to the drive via usb?**
A: 1 does it by default appear in windows 10 pro file manager? Not always. I have one that does and one that doesn't. You can set it up as a network drive.
2 The contents are not encrypted. This has to be done before storing them to the drive.
# No, the drive can't be accessed by USB. The USB port is to add an additional drive to it.

**Q: does this support time machine?**
A: I'm having MAJOR problems with it. It's unreliable. It shows it's backup one day. I check a week later only to find it hasn't done a single back up since. Time Machine progress bar shows it being stuck.

**Q: Can this be used as an iTunes home sharing server? (e.g. Stream to an apple TV. )**
A: Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great, easy to set up and responsive support but updates break features and take months to fix
*by S***E on March 9, 2026*

Device works well, and support is quite responsive. I am on my third - a 220, and two 720's. They work great for data storage. And when the DLNA feature works, it makes it easy to stream media within your house. But that is broken. Would have given 5 stars, but DLNA server has been broken since the December update, and this is March. I have tried their test firmware update, and it works fine. Installed it a month ago, on my OLDER 720 DLNA is an advertised feature for the home versions (NOT SOHO). If you are a home user, you want that version, as it lets you store media and play it in your house on devices like ROKU, phones, tablets, etc. I will state this is a great network storage device, and its backup feature means you can back up the data, too, without going over the network (attach a POWERED usb external drive) But I also use the DLNA feature to stream to our two ROKU devices and tablets.
