**Q: I have an amazing carbon steel knife that is badly tarnished & a shows minor rust. Will this product help with tarnishing? Or just rust?**
A: I use it to clean my sharpening stones. Metal is left on the stone in the form of a black liquid.  To clean your knife I would use WD40 and xxx steel wool. Carbon knives get a patina over time which is normal. This actually protects the blade to some extent. Red rust is bad and should be removed by the method I mentioned above. For just the patina or tarnish you mention you can clean the surface with a green scotch bright pad which is finer then the other colors.
1x Rust eraser is not very course and should not damage your knife. Use light strokes and keep the pad wet.

**Q: I just got 2 used ceramic whetstones at a thrift store that have little wear but both have rust on one side of them. will rust remover work on stones?**
A: These rust erasers are actually made to remove surface rust from knives. They will work to clean the surface of soft waterstones, and the higher the grit, the better they work. They're almost useless on really hard ceramics (Spyderco stones), or on really coarse stones. I own one and regularly use it to clean steel particulate from Shapton Glass, Naniwa Super Stones, and a few others.

**Q: Can i use this on my diamond stones**
A: Yes you can, but its gonna wear your eraser out quickly. Soap and water and maybe a scrub brush is a better idea.

**Q: when should this item be replaced? how long will it probably last?**
A: It all depends on how much you use it. I removed a moderate amount of rust from two Japanese carbon steel blades and it is hard to tell whether I used 1% or 2% of this eraser.
