The warranty and any services that may be bundled on the unit will be automatically activated once it is registered with Fortinet. However, if you purchase any addtional services to be added onto the unit, those particular services will require an activation key. "Red" Skelton E-ITstore **Q: Does this model support VPN?** A: Hello Brian, This is an Access Point and not a firewall or router. Most Access Points I am aware of do not have VPN capabilities. However, I took a look at the data sheet to make sure. According to Fortinet's Data Sheet for the FAP-221E, it is not showing anything regarding VPN (Virtual Private Network) capabilities. VPN is traditionally be handled by the firewall since VPN traditionally is secure access to the network from outside the network perimeter and the AP is for accessing the network from wireless devices from within the network perimeter. I therefore advise against buying it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ very good product *by I***E on 19 January 2025* excellent product with easy to configure ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Wireless Access Point for commercial use *by C***H on 13 November 2020* This type of equipment is not for really for residential usage, although the tenacious tinker among us will probably find a way to successfully configure it and understand it's considerable capabilities as a wireless access point. For business/commercial usage, you will find nothing better. It is very important that you register this device with Fortinet as soon as you get it. Make sure this done immediately after purchasing and receiving the device, so that you can get the latest firmware loaded and determine if it's of type "lemon". Although rare with Fortinet equipment, even the best equipment can be delivered with a defect from the factory, and although it's rare with these particular devices, it is always a remote possibility. Note that after the 90 day of default warranty coverage, this equipment can be covered with a 1 or more year warranty (basically for SA and continuation of lemon-aid purposes). These WAP units are well built and very capable. Fortinet also offers an awesome cloud management system which will ease configuration of the device for use with your firewall. It can also be used with FortiGate firewall integrated wireless controllers, for local management.
