I'd be hiking in TX in the summer in them.** A: I love my boots! They fit great. So far, I have worn them for three seasons but not in very hot, hot weather. I can tell you, though, that your feet will be comfy in single-digit temperatures. I suggest Columbia's lighter weight mesh hiking boot/shoe. I own a pair of those as well and prefer them for the summer. **Q: Are they really waterproof ?** A: Yes; they are legitimately waterproof and hold up very well in the rain/snow/puddles/streams. People often claim that Columbia boots/shoes are not waterproof because they say their feet/ankles still get wet while wearing them, but that's often because of snow/water getting in from above the ankle/leg and such. These are definitely waterproof. **Q: How long are the shoe laces?** A: Pretty long. I have been hunting around within the same price range, and other than being restricted to a few brands due to the lack of availability online and in brick and mortar stores from where I'm from, Columbia is a brand which is value for money. The Newton Ridge Plus checks off quite a few boxes, especially when you're looking for a good looking pair of hiking shoes, easy hikes, comfort, and well priced. Similarly priced shoes from other brands tend to be not that great looking, uncomfortable, too heavy, or even not waterproof.
