## Overview

The CompuLab fit-Headless GS HDMI 2.0 adapter is a compact, plug-and-play device that emulates a high-resolution display, enabling GPUs to output up to 4K at 60Hz and 1080p at 120Hz. It supports 7.1 channel HDMI audio and is ideal for game streaming and VR setups requiring a virtual display connection, compatible with all operating systems without additional software.

## Description

fit-Headless GS is a small HDMI plug that emulates a high resolution HDMI 2.0 display, specially designed for high refresh-rate game streaming. Once plugged, the headless PC detects a connected display thus enabling the GPU. Game streaming is then available at high resolution and high refresh rate – up to 4K @ 60 Hz and 1080p @ 120 Hz. fit-Headless GS also enables HDMI audio up to 7.1 channels. fit-Headless GS is also useful for VR setups where the operating system requires a connected display for proper booting - allowing the VR host to operate without a display.

Review: Exactly what you need for steam streaming - Fantastic! This was exactly what I needed for steam streaming. I'm able to plug this in to the hdmi port of my gtx 1080, while my gsync display sits on the displayport. This allows me a full 3840x2160@60Hz, the full resolution and refresh rate of my 4k for streaming. I had originally purchased the fit-headless 4k, since the description (inaccurately, in my opinion) states that it will do 4k at "high frame rates", but in reality that adapter only does 4k@15Hz, hardly high frame rate. The GS model provides a full 60Hz, and it works flawlessly. Here's a useful tip for using this product with a non-headless steam streaming box (i.e. one where you will play on a local monitor as well as streaming). If you launch steam in big picture, in the settings menu you can specify which monitor to use for big picture, and this can be different from your normal primary monitor. As a result, if you do not use big picture when playing locally on your primary monitor, you can tell big picture to use the "monitor" provided by the fit-headless GS, and it will automatically switch primary monitors for you when you enter big picture mode, and automatically switch back when you leave. Since steam streaming will launch big picture on the host when you start streaming, you can use this to enable different resolutions for streaming that might not be available locally (in my case, a 4k for streaming in the living room, vs a 3440x1440 ultrawide on the desk). Now if I could just get steam to start games at appropriate resolutions depending on whether I'm local or streaming, I'm golden.
Review: Perfect! Works even better than spec! - I have a home theater receiver set up with surround sound for the desktop PC. If you're here there is a pretty good chance that you know the only really good way to make that connection digitally (that is, without multiple analog cables) is HDMI. TOSLINK/Optical "works", but you have to get a sound card with DTS encoding to get surround from non-movie sources! (NOT CHEAP) Now, the gotcha is that you can't do audio only HDMI... so you need to connect the HDMI from the PC to the receiver and then to the monitor. Which is fine.... IF you only have a 60Hz monitor because that's all the cheap HDMI receiver port will do! So you go get a headless instead so you can run your DisplayPort connected 144Hz screen... except that now you have a "dead" monitor off to the side if you mouse over too far and you can lose open windows on it. Annoying. Well, you can just mirror one screen with the headless right? Well, if you have an NVIDIA graphics card you can't have different refresh rates on mirrored screen! Cheap headless dongles will only let you go to 60Hz or less, so you still have the same problem you started with! So now, this is where this bad boy comes in. I was able to set the headless to 1080p and 144Hz and mirror it with one of my screens! The spec says it only goes to 120Hz and figured that was better than 60Hz, but no, she goes to the full 144Hz! I've been running it this way for a few months now, no issue. This is literally one of the only dongles on desertcart that even claims 120Hz (much less delivers 144Hz). If you are trying to connect HDMI surround sound audio and you don't have potato screens YOU WANT THIS.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just Works, No Setup Needed
*by B***L on November 10, 2020*

The CompuLab fit-Headless (GS) works perfectly for me. I just plugged it into the HDMI port of the graphics card on my headless computer, then connected to that computer using a remote desktop programs on another PC. I could easily change the resolution in the system settings. Also, the fit-Headless GS is recognized as a speaker in the sound control panel, so I could select it as a sound output device and get audio over my remote desktop connection. My graphics card has a maximum output resolution of 3840 x 2160, so I wasn't able to test whether the CompuLab device supports even higher resolutions (but other reviewers have indicated it supports 4096 x 2160). Here are the resolution options it gives me, as limited by my graphics card: 3840 x 2160 3840 x 1620 3440 x 1440 3200 x 1800 2560 x 1440 2160 x 1200 2048 x 1536 1920 x 1200 1920 x 1080 1680 x 1050 1600 x 1200 1600 x 900 1400 x 1050 1368 x 769 1360 x 765 1280 x 1024 1280 x 768 1280 x 720 1152 x 872 1024 x 768 1024 x 600 832 x 624 800 x 600
