I used to have a pastry blade on with my food processor. I upgraded my machine and lost that feature. However, this item is the perfect substitute. It's great for making homemade tortillas and making sure everything is combine. It fits well into the hand. The grip is long enough that the end of it doesn't cut into your hand while you're using it. It's lightweight and is easily maneuverable. Cleanup is a breeze. Warm soap water, a little rinse and it's ready to go again. I used it for another recipe; combining butter, sugar and cinnamon. It cut through the butter effortlessly and after a minute or so, I was able to stop using the pastry blade and fully combine the ingredients with a spoon. It saved me several minutes time by using it. Five sharp blades – rather than the typical four – easily cut through cold butter. In addition to coating the outside edge of the sides near the blades, some of the flour-shortening mixture will become lodged between blades. If you use a fork or other utensil to do so, dislodging the flour-shortening mixture is not difficult. Because the outside of the blades feels sharp enough to cut skin and the inside is rough and burred, I do not recommend using your fingers to clear the blades. It is because of these things that I am pleased the pastry cutter is dishwasher safe. However, if you do wash this in your dishwasher, you will want to rest it on its side after removing it. I found water seeping from the rounded handhold several hours after removing the pastry cutter from the dishwasher.The rounded handle makes this stainless steel pastry blender comfortable to hold. While it seems sturdy, I am not convinced the unit is made as well as some other pastry blenders. It felt as if the grip could loosen and then detach from the blade portion of this kitchen tool.
