## Description

desertcart.com : Terra Creta | Award Winning | Kolymvari Estates | 100% Pure Greek Olive Oil | Cold Extracted | Protective Designation of Origin | 3Ltr - (101.4 fl.oz) Tin : Grocery & Gourmet Food

Review: great oil. - I have bought this several times and always arrives without issues. one time I think the tin was dented but obviously that has no impact on the oil. this stuff is great otherwise and is used on just about everything. tastes good and priced well.
Review: Thank You, Athena!!!! - In some ways, I really am spoiled. I realize that as a former educator, living on a former educator's salary, this statement might seem odd. However, I'm absolutely serious and this olive oil helps to prove my point. Enter Terra Creta Olive Oil. As we all know, olive oil was a gift to the Greeks, courtesy of the goddess Athena. It is olive oil that largely built the ancient Greek economy and thus promulgated Greek culture through the ancient world by means of economic exchange. That exchange was fostered by the highly prized olive oil that was acknowledged as the world's best. To this day, Greece is fiercely protective of the reputation of its olive oil--and rightly so. In its pure, unadulterated form, it is a glorious addition to your kitchen's staples, adding flavor, polish and nutrition to a wide array of dishes. Unfortunately, if you don't live in Greece--or in the EU--your olive oil is probably NOT unadulterated in some form. In the EU, Greek olive oil is protected by strict labeling and production laws so that the consumer can be assured of getting an authentic product, and thus an authentic experience. Here in the States, there are no such nation-wide laws, so the olive oil we get--even the extra virgin--is adulterated by other oils, or at least a pastiche of different regions, producers, etc., who are committed to driving down costs more than they are to producing excellent oils. The Terra Creta is an emphatic disavowal of this practice. It is an estate-produced oil created under exacting, heavily monitored conditions, with each can getting a unique label (see picture above), which functions as a birth certificate, more or less, so that you can practically trace the moment it was harvested. All of this effort reaps rewards for the consumer. This oil is a revelation compared to the pathetic stuff that you get at the average supermarket. It's vivid, earthy and fills the mouth with subtle notes that lean more towards the fruity end (at least in my experience; some have said it comes across as a bit more on the peppery side). In any case, it is truly excellent for dipping bread, making salad, making garlic butter, or anything that requires a moderate base note and delicate upper notes of olive flavor. As for the cost, you look at the price of the tin and think, "wow, that's a bit excessive." You'd be wrong. Look at how much you get and then figure a per-ounce cost vs. the "extra virgin" you get at the supermarket. Then, think about how what you eat becomes a part of you. Then, think about how short life is and how we should seize those beautiful pleasures that are within our reach while we can. Does it seem expensive now?

## Features

- Protected designation of origin: as our oil is manufactured and processed in the Kolymvari region according to recognised and established processes, it can be called "Kolymvari Chanion Kritis PDO" (Protected Designation of Origin).
- Awards: its excellent sensory properties and high quality have already earned this olive oil numerous national and international awards.
- Koroneiki olives: for our now world-famous olive oil "Terra Creta" we use the Koroneiki variety, which has been cultivated in Greece for over 3,000 years. This small olive variety is particularly spicy and very aromatic. The resulting oil has a fruity aroma, a slightly peppery taste, is popular with gourmets and is one of the best olive oils in the world.
- Use: this extra virgin olive oil is the ideal companion in the kitchen and can be used for roasting, cooking, baking and of course also for refining fresh salads and cold appetizers.
- Innovative extraction: to ensure that the freshness and quality of this oil is maintained for a particularly long time, the gentle cold extraction of the fine Koroneiki olives takes place at particularly low temperatures.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this olive oil have "sediment"?**
A: This is filtered and without sediment. Sediment is in unfiltered olives oils. All Greek extra virgin olive oil is raw because it is cold-pressed. For cooking, only filtered olive oil will give good results, olive sediment may overcook and the moisture may cause splattering or affect your recipe. Filtered olive oil is shelf stable for 2 years, but unfiltered olive oil is good for less than year and is often refrigerated when open as the olive fruit sediments will start to ferment, affecting taste and purity. Olio Nuevo has the most sediment and moisture, so it is only good for 4 months. Greek olive oils are filtered shortly after picking, preserving more olive flavor and a butteriness. Unfiltered olive oil can be used on salads and raw foods if you want more olive flavor or additional micronutrients. Bragg (the unfiltered apple cider vinegar company) has unfiltered Greek olive oils available in the U.S. and other markets. I probably wouldn’t buy unfiltered olive oil if it wasn’t guaranteed to have been protected from heat.

**Q: What is the expiration date of what is being shipped now? Is it good for a year?**
A: My can says 2021. Flavor is so subjective from person to person. My impression is that is has no bitterness and tastes very "green". I can almost drink it as it is so flavorful. It is not herbal nor floral.
If you like a fresh, green taste you will like it. I use it for all my cooking and even on the most delicate of salads with a good quality balsamic vinegar.

**Q: what is the expiration date on the 3L can you received from this seller (eGourmet Foods)? plz answer if u bought a 3L can this year 2014)**
A: 2016. 3L can bought in October 2014 (last month). It's actually a longer expiration date than a 1L bottle we bought in Greece this summer. The tin comes a bit banged up, but no leaking.

**Q: Is this the current October 2018 harvest?**
A: The harvest has barely started and it takes months to arrive in the US. Anyone saying otherwise is not telling the truth.

I’ve been really impressed with Terra Creta olive oil. It has a smooth, fresh taste with a nice balance of fruity and slightly peppery notes. I've been using it for all my cooking needs as well as on my salads and breads. The flavor is high quality without being overpowering. This is now my favorite Olive oil and elevates everyday meals.
