After I realized that one of my planters that I had set on my heirloom marble table had a metal bottom and water had gotten underneath, I set out on a mission to remove the rust stain that was left behind. I started by using just baking soda and water and as you can see from the first three images in the first photo, there wasn't much progress made from that. This product came in and I wiped the table down with water and applied it for the recommended 15 minute maximum time. You can see from the bottom right image in the first photo that the dark purple indicates a chemical reaction between the remover and the rust. In the second photo you can see that after several 15 minute applications, the darker spots of rust had been completely removed, although the larger spots remained. I'm impatient, so I started applying this remover for 2 hours at a time and then eventually moved to 4 hours at a time. From the images at the top of the third photo you can see that it started to dye the marble purple and it wasn't going away. After a bit more research I applied a poultice of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide (the kind that you'd find in a first aid kit), and left it overnight. You can see from the bottom of the third image that the poultice helped to remove the purple. So for several more days I would wake up, apply the remover and leave it for four hours, remove it, apply it for another four hours, remove it again, and then apply a hydrogen peroxide and baking soda poultice overnight to remove any residual purple left over. The final image shows the stain completely removed from the table! My only critique of these instructions is that 15 minute maximum, as I saw the most results after leaving the product on for four hours. I am so relieved that I have not permanently damaged my table.
