The stones are flat and even with no issues at all. I would argue that the grits listed are not quite accurate but they are absolutely usable for maintenence and re-sharpening kitchen knives. The "leather " strop is not very high quality at all but it's also not the most important piece of this kit so it's not an issue at all. I sharpened about 8 knives on these stones and they worked very well. Again, the grits are not quite as listed but for the average person who wants to keep their daily user knives sharp and serviceable, you really can't beat this deal! Perfectly serviceable stones for anyone short of a professional and definitely worth every penny. If you're looking for perfection, expect to pay hundreds of dollars. It did however still cut through paper when I held it up. It just didn’t glide through it. I can’t judge whether or not this is a fault of the product as it takes practice to perfect. The manual seemed very helpful and easy to understand. It was a pretty complete kit too. It came with an angle guard which helped a lot. I also like how there are only 2 whetstones, just with 2 sides each. Which is efficient and a good choice if you live in a trailer.
