I can’t imagine a 45 or 50 pound child being able to wear this unless they are very thin. This life jacket is well made and has padding/flotation built around the sides so it stays in place well. But life jackets are supposed to be snug! This worked well on vacation in the pool and ocean. The between leg strap is crucial for younger kids. We accidentally left this at the beach (oops) and had to buy another life jacket. We ended up with a Midas brand which was larger and had gaps under the arms on the sides. This meant it moved out of place and we much preferred this life jacket.
