It does power off if you do not play a movie after around 15 minutes or so... What I found particularly good was that my Samsung TV remote worked perfectly with it. So, playing, pausing, rewinding etc can all be done with the remote - Samsung that is. Although, I think it would be the same for any other TV. The Upscale is fantastic, too. Watching DVDs is almost as good as watching the Blu-Ray. It may be my TV; however, I believe it's a combination of the two and that is a great combination.
