By way of your disciption, if there is some kind of brake or join in two wires (cables) you would normally solder the joints and shrink wrap the joint to seal and secure. Rather than purchase new lamps, I like to re-wire and weather proof connections with these heat shrink sleeves. Also these sleeves have a type of glue inside that melts and seals the connection. They're heat shrink connectors, they shrink to a third of their unshrunk size.They work as expected and well for my applications. I particularly like the inner lined adhesive.
