It says on the label to hand wash and lay flat to dry but I have put them in the machine a couple of times now and in the dryer too and they come out great and they don't wrinkle, even after being folded up and put away, which makes them perfect for packing for a trip. There are many rows of stiching around the brim to keep the two layers of fabric together and its possible that had I not put them in the dryer the stitching would not have puckered the fabric slightly, but its a non issue for me and I'm sure a go with an iron would smooth it right out.I use these hats out in the yard for protecting my face from the sun and I can recline in the lounge chair with them on and it's very comfortable. They fit slightly big for my small head but its not an issue, though it could be for some as they only come in one size. I like they are reversible so I actually have four different colors/designs.Three years ago I bought a washable packable sun hat made of a woven strawlike fiber but after 2 summers of daily use in the yard (and not even any washings) it was a goner so I decided on fabric this time. These hats seem good quality, and they were inexpensive. The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I would only use them at home in the yard as they look like a baby bonnet from the front. They are not fashion items like the picture makes them look like. They practically hide your face and since they are floppy and packable (which is what I wanted) it gives that baby bonnet appearance. But great for the yard and being able to recline with them on.The hat comes in a cute little tote that I really don't see the necessity of, though I suppose its a good idea if you want to pack the hat in your purse and take it with you, but I'll use it for a cosmetics case or purse organizer.UPDATE: I have discovered that you can fold the brim up a lot or a little, all around or just partially, and it will stay in place by itself. It looks good folded up on the side and a little toward the front. I'm keeping it and hopefully it will stay on with no problems. I read the reviews and almost everyone said it was big on them so I figured it would fit good on me.
