This book keeps you going back and forth, siding with Wicked, then siding with a group determined to overthrow the group. It is back and forth the whole time, as this book is a true testament to the series, highlight the fact that it isn't a black and white world. Below is a basic synopsis of the book, so potential semi spoilers are present in the following paragraph, but no major ones. The basic premise of the book is Thomas and the Gladers go back to Wicked. Somehow, after some get there memories back, the gladers get separated into two groups and somehow escape Wicked who believe they are almost to the cure that can save the human race. The main question at this point that Thomas needs to answer is is it better to give wicked what they want for the common good now that they are so close, or try to end wicked and start fresh isolated from the flare and let the flare stricken areas die out. This is the main point of this book, which of the two options will be the death cure? Read to find out! Anyway, Tomas and the gladers escape and end up working with a group called the Right Arm, that wants to take down Wicked. With the original gladers gone, wicked begins to round up new subjects to readminister the trials. As time goes on, we begin to see Thomas struggle back and forth between fighting with wicked or against wicked, all leading up to a 75 page ending that is a full on bloodbath/rescue/state of confusion, all in a good way. The ending action is amazing, but I do agree with many that the final 5 pages did not do the series quite the justice it deserved. Even still the lead up was so good, I can easily overlook the few questions I have and the fact that I would have loved to see one more chapter to address the aftermath a bit more than 5 pages. It is still a wonderful book and you cannot put it down! As a series, this is one like no other and I am amazed by the world Dashner created. It is so profound and amazing. I have been so inspired by his works and he has made me a life long fan of his. Like all trilogies, the ending book is not as good as the other two, but this is still the best trilogy I have ever read. I give TMR 4.7/5, Scorch 4.9/5 and TDC 4.5/5. Don't let other reviews make you stop at the scorch. You will have a question or two at the end and wish for more, but the journey is so good it is easy to overlook the ending, and don't get me wrong, the ending is still good and tied it up well, I just wish for a little bit more, perhaps another 10 pages perhaps into the future, if that happened, this would have gotten a 4.8/5 for me. Review: The Death Cure- ALERT: Spoilers ahead... - I can't seem to review this book without giving a few major things away, so if you aren't a fan of spoilers you might want to skip this review... I am a disgustingly fast reader, and I read all three of these books within 2 weeks. The first two were intriguing and captivating, but by the start of this third one, I was exhausted. These poor kids are just screwed over and over and never seem to catch a break until they break out themselves, but even then they are tracked and followed by WICKED. I was hoping that by this book these kids would have discovered something useful or that their breakout would have stirred something bigger, but it just seems like the same ol' WICKED routine. Also, the concept of this last book seemed a little far fetched, with WICKED needing to kill of Thomas in order to succeed.. I guess I just felt like the science fiction began to wobble in this third book because there was no possible cure for the Flare. Any way, I still enjoyed this book but I was happy it was over and slightly disappointed with the way it ended even though the ending was super exciting. I guess I could see this book having a lot of different avenues it could take, and it took the same avenue as the last two.. I was hoping for some curve ball events. I also am attempting to read the prequel: The Kill Order and I just can't do it. I'm getting sick of cranks and story lines that are too similar. SPOILERS OVER- BUT I STILL LIKED THE SERIES. If your young teenagers have nightmares, don't let them read this before bed, and keep an eye on their mood when reading because this series does have the potential to affect young readers who get too deep into the story. Not physically, but in my thoughts afterward. I'll catch myself thinking about the characters, or what's going to happen next if there is going to be another book. Several of my favorite books have concluded, so I was glad that I still had the Maze Runner trilogy to think about. But now it's over. The trilogy contained so many twists and turns, and such amazing moments! I feel as if Dashner did his best to ensure that readers felt like they were one of the Gladers. I found myself feeling massive amounts of mistrust towards people that I've never met! This mistrust was built up over time, but their arguments were still so convincing and...necessary...that I too wanted to give in and believe them. Even after I finished, I felt a lingering feeling of doubt. This book really makes you paranoid and skeptical about everything you're told in it. This, let me tell you, makes for a very wild read. By this point we've been with these characters for a while. Though there are only 2 main characters, I felt as if there were more. I was affected greatly while reading this book when some certain characters died. While one is expected, the other is a huge surprise. I became attached to most of the characters along the way, and after seeing so many die, I found myself grasping on harder. Overall I think that this trilogy was simply amazing. They never lacked in action, mysteries, surprises, or conspiracies. The ending might have been a bit too perfect, but they deserved it after all that they have been through. I would recommend this book along with the two preceding it to anyone who loves dystopian novels or just someone in the mood for a literary adventure.
