On a flat and smooth surface, it really sticks to it! There's no knocking it over! Yet, when you lift up, it comes right off the table. It's not a suction cup release when you pull up either, it's super smooth like it was never attached to the tabletop! The ONLY complaint I have is that on a lightly worn table (small cracks in the finish) it's not quite solid enough to withstand a few solid bumps. Don't get me wrong, it'll still probably hold against any normal bumping into a drink, but with a little force it does tend to lose it's grip (thank goodness for the waterproof seal though!).
