I have T2 Diabetes and on oral meds - no longer insulin dependant. As any diabetic knows, how much carbohydrate and what kind(s) vary greatly from person to person, so keep that in mind when evaluating these bars for yourself. I was insulin dependant, but now am controlled solely on oral meds, and I can eat some of the "healthier carbs" - in moderation and occasionally - that some diabetics cannot eat at all - like sweet potato/yam, brown rice, carrots, very occasional bit of honey in tea or drizzled on yogurt, and even a little sugar in a cup of coffee as a treat. Not all diabetics have such leeway.I have found that these bars work well for me as either a snack right before bedtime, so that my blood glucose level remains steady enough that I no longer wake up at 3:00am starving hungry and with a low glucose reading, or at 5:00am so sick from very low glucose level that I must wake my husband and ask him to go fix and bring me something to eat because I am literally too weak to rise out of bed. I leave one of these bars in my bedside night table drawer just in case... but since I started eating one of these before bed, I have not needed food so badly that I was too weak or sick to get up and go to my kitchen and make/eat something. Occasionally, for one or another reason, I do not eat a bar before going to sleep, and I wake up around 3am, needing something - so I just reach into my drawer and pull out a bar and eat it, and I'm good very soon after that.Another good use for me is to carry these when I am out (not home) and when I travel. Too many times, I dashed out for a quick errand, and got held up much longer than anticipated, and was without a quick fix to hold me over long enough to drive home after needing emergency glucose tablets (which peak too soon for me to make it all the way home). One of these bars works great for that, and I can get home safely and eat (if I need more food than just the bar). Often, I do not need more food for another several hours.The bars taste good, although certainly not like candy. They aren't meant to be candy. They serve a purpose, and, in my opinion, they do so and taste good enough. Would I enjoy them just as a chosen snack if I were not diabetic? Some of the flavors - yes; others, not as much. I do have personal favorites, but I intentionally buy a variety of flavors because no matter how much I love the taste of something, if I eat it too often, I will lose taste for it, and most people are the same.By the way - word of warning for dog owners or people owned by cats: My cats love these bars and they apparently contain enough protein and carbohydrate that the cats consider them "natural cat food", so the cats have trained the dogs to go into my drawer and retrieve the bars, and the cats then take the bars and eat them, leaving just enough crumbs for the dogs to enjoy and be willing to do it again. My cats have also figured out how to get onto the highest shelves in my kitchen without knocking everything down and breaking a lot of breakables, and knock down these bars to the floor, and make off with some, leaving one or two for the dogs. That is why I now store them in a nearly-60-year-old child's metal school lunch box with a latch that is still secure. My mother, may she rest in peace, would love to know that I still use the lunch box she bought for me - on sale due to one dent in it - in the early 1960s. The cats still occasionally knock the old metal box down, but they can't get into it... at least not until Amazon starts selling thumbs - at which point I will then be beaten, because my cats buy stuff online all the time if I fail to remember to put the computer into sleep mode (which requires password again), or to close my iPad case, or to set my phone in it's otterbox defender case (got tired of smashed phone screens, too) upside down (it's an iPhone and the beasts don't - yet - have my thumbprint to unlock it). Am I the only human owned by furry demonic monsters of the feline persuasion? Dogs are merely unwitting dupes for cats. So - I'm afraid - are humans.I wish that this seller would include some of the other available flavors in the assortment package. I like all of them. I dislike having to buy an entire box each of the few flavors not included in these assortments at a higher price. I guess that's the price I must pay for a larger variety. Honestly, I would buy this particular assortment package twice as often as I now do, IF all of the flavors were included in it. (I hope you are paying attention, seller. I would be willing to buy on a twice-monthly automatic subscription IF you included all of the available flavors that Extend makes. Took them on a recent vacation with my sister. She was shocked that they tasted so good! I like the peanut butter....she like the chocolate. The bonus is that the bar stabilizes sugar level for about 6 hours. It helps to stop the cravings and the bonus is that it is really good for the body. This is my breakfast every morning. Lots of energy and no "crash."
