For the real answer consult the engineering tables for 20/20 aluminum extrusion - but if you don’t understand the simple part above, get a few pieces and test your design… or go bigger I am building all the framing for my adventure van with this profile (20mm/20mm) up to 8 ft long - in tension, braced, and as tracks… bed rails and parts required to be extra strong get 20/40 (3/4” x 1.5””) - have had no part not strong enough with regular bracing and/or 1/4” plywood skins (1/2” Baltic birch for the bed platform) I would have used 20/20 as the cross-frame for the bed, but I chickened out and used 20/40 The crazy guys use 80/80 - totally overkill - but not going to fail, no question….
