They do have an adequate grip on the floor, because the treads are full. They are useful as fall-prevention help. They help my mother, and they give her more confidence, which is very important. She needs assistance, and if she will walk with confidence, she stands better and it is less strain on me. So, I am glad to have them, since we needed them. Are they perfect? No, the socks seem a little thin. While the XXLarge size sounds like it would fit only the biggest feet, they are actually bit tight on my men's size 10 foot. To their credit, though, I have put them through two wash cycles so far and they have not deteriorated. My only complaint is that they do not come up high enough above the ankle and tend to slip or roll down the leg.
