The amount of ink even the smaller brushes hold onto astounds me, especially for a synthetic brush. There’s a good feeling of control with these sets, and a nice length to the handle - they feel nice in the hand and I haven’t been tempted to go back to using my squirrel brushes since I got these. I haven’t had ANY shedding whatsoever from a single brush either. Surprising for such an affordable set. That’s what I use them for. My one suggestion would be to make sure after they are washed that you twirl them back into a nice tight point and they work really well. **Q: how are the squirrels?** A: So far I like squirrels for watercolor best because they seem to hold more paint. Lately I have begun to explore acrylics but I am fearful they will damage the squirrels, but I have every intention to try. They work well with oils. **Q: Are they good for gouache as well?** A: Depending on the effect you're trying to achieve, I wouldn't use them for gouache unless your gouache is thinned enough to respond to a soft brush. **Q: Are these made of real hair? Or just synthetic substitute?** A: Real hair blended with synthetic. They are beautiful. I've used a few of the brushes over the past week and they've been really good however a few on first use already had brisles pointing out. Other than that, I've found then quite useful and love the sleek design. Washing the brushes is quite simple and the pack it comes with is rather handy.
