Is there any danger of over amplifying an already very strong signal into the TV decoder.** A: dB is a ratio, and without a reference, doesn't have a value. Signals from an antenna are almost always in the micro-volts. The 4 output amplifier has a gain of 8dB, which is about 2.5, so the likelihood of overloading the TV's input is low, and if you have enough signal to do that, you wouldn't need an amplifier. **Q: Can this item be used near the TV or does it have to go in the attic next to the antenna?** A: The length of the coax determines if you need an amplifier. If the coax is short an you have week signal then try a pre-amplifier no less than 12" from the antenna. Then if the coax runs long then you may need an amplifier, which may be placed anywhere on the coax. Channal Master has a video which explains very well on how, when, where to use any type of amplifiers. I have to use a pre-amplifier to amplify the signal to the antenna & an amplifier to boost the signal because of the very long length of coax that is needed. We have a two story house that is both tall & wide. Not liking cable/sat TV, decided on free TV. I did not wish to have coax running all through the inside of my house, so it had to run down & around the outside, which caused to be very long. With only a amplifier, we got 41 channels. Adding the pre-amplifer we got 59 channels. Sometimes we get a few channels that may come in once in a while, but don't know why they come & go. Something about magnetic degrees?? **Q: i have a horse trailer with a roof mounted digtal antenna. will this increase my reception power?** A: I'm guessing the other 2 respondents might be correct, but the only reason I bought this unit was to amplify the signal I get through Time Warner cable system. This unit is supposed to amplify a signal 15%. What I don't know is if it would amplify a signal through a roof mounted digital antenna. It says the return signal is passive which means that if communication in the reverse direction is required, it is not amplified. Also, amplifying a poor quality noisey digital signal will not help any. I have had cable issues make as many problems as signal strength issues. (but you need at least a weak signal !!) In my case, it does its job! ..... One year later it is still working and without my Cm3410 fox and NBC are much more weaker... Or not there! In my case it really makes a difference. If there isn't any signal it does not work. The Cm3410 will not create the signal. A weak signal must be present before anything else.
