I usually remove the seeds from the pods, grind them finely on a spice or coffee grinder, and use the fresh powder. The taste and fragrance of fresh ground is much stronger and once you grind your own you will never buy powdered again....when using in desserts you should definitely grind finely for better distribution of flavor. If you put whole pods into chai or coffee you should leave them much longer to allow the spice to come through the outer skin of the pod onto the liquid, and you may want to remove them before serving **Q: Can these be roasted?** A: Yes they can. I roast them then add to my turkish coffee., rice meats. **Q: In the description it says "authentic indian product". but down in the fine print it says "product of india / guatemala". so which is it?** A: Don't know probably mixed lot.
