Just hand wash and dry with the cork band on. I imagine this is to prevent stressing the cork. Frequently removing/replacing the band might be what's causing the cork breakage several reviewers seem to be experiencing. **Q: Are they completely leakproof? Ie can you turn it upside down?** A: No, it is not even remotely leakproof. Liquid seeps under the lid and dribbles out every time you take a sip. I have ruined many shirts because of these blasted cups. They are a waste of money. **Q: Will this for in most cup holders?** A: Yes it fits in all sorts of cup holders. It can be taken apart into 3 parts to clean. The cork band makes it easier to hold and grip. BUT if you have a hot drink (even one mixed with milk so not boiling), the glass gets quite hot and uncomfortable to hold. You can hold the cork band instead, but this is fairly uncomfortable. Also, heat transfers very quickly so drinks loose heat rapidly (faster than a takeaway coffee cup). Holding the cup upright and drinking, I've had no problems with leakage. However, if you tip it upside down, it isn't leakproof, so keep it upright.
