TotalBoat Halcyon Marine Gloss and Satin Varnishes let you create a beautiful finish in clear light amber and ultra-clear formulas. Halcyon dries to a clear finish, with a slight amber tone that has the beauty of a traditional marine spar varnish, but with greater clarity, abrasion resistance & UV protection. It accentuates the natural wood grain, and won't turn cloudy or hazy. The more coats you apply, the richer and warmer the clear amber finish.Halcyon Clear cures to a light gloss or satin finish that imparts a natural, clear tone that won't discolor lighter woods or muddy the grain of darker woods. It enhances the grain and won't leave it stale and dimensionless, unlike other clear finishes. For a satin finish, build with coats of amber gloss or clear gloss and finish with clear satin.This water based one part polyurethane needs no mixing—just pour it out of the bag and it's ready to use. Apply by brush, roller or spray. Halcyon's forgiving formula flows smoothly, lays down evenly and dries fast so you can finish varnishing in hours, not days or weeks. Review: Good product, great packaging. - Used this to refinish the rudder and daggerboard on a sunfish sailboat. It worked well but I particularly appreciated the packaging. Let dry for about 15 minutes. Brush on coat one. Second coat in one hour. Third coat an hour after that. Then I give it a couple of hours. Then I sand with 320 grit, tack cloth, then wipe down with denatured alcohol. Let dry for about 15 minutes. Brush on fourth coat. Fifth coat after an hour. Then it sets overnight. In the morning, I buff with a green 3M pad. Wipe with a soft cloth and it’s ready to go. Is this a lot of work? Yes! But it’s so worth it! And the customers love the soft glow the satin finish gives the project. The picture I shared is of some white oak I am using to refinish an outdoor bench for a customer. Used this to refinish the rudder and daggerboard on a sunfish sailboat. It worked well but I particularly appreciated the packaging. It's nice not having to deal with traditional paint cans. Its easy to open, pour out what you need, and then reseal. I hope all paint products start using this approach.
