I routinely oil my leather holsters and YES I do oil the inside of holster with a rough cloth as far as my fingers can reach. After oiling, I place pistol in holster and then using my hand, I press and push the leather to form around the pistol in the holster. Yes the oil may give you a smoother pull, but more importantly your pistol will have a tighter fit in the holster - smoother draw and much better retention for pistol. **Q: does this product work on vinyl ?** A: No. It is meant for various leather applications that allow it to penetrate the leather. Vinyl typically is a water proof surface that would not absorb the oil and might damage the vinyl surface. **Q: Would this soften a new thick leather (cowhide) saddleback bucket handbag?** A: Yes it will soften the leather. It would be helpful to apply the oil to both the inside surface as well as the outside. Application of Neatsfoot oil will also darken the color of the ltather somewhat. This darkening will diminish over time. **Q: has anyone used it on a saddle?** A: This product was originally and traditionally used on saddles, harness's , bridals, and leather "strapping" of all manner... The condition of the bottle WAS NOT. luckily, no spills in the delivery box. When I use this type of product, I pour some into a shallow container and use a shoe polish dauber/applicator. This allows you to get into all the places. I don't play baseball anymore but I sill.use leather work gloves that get stiff with sweat and I also wear leather pull on square toe boots. I used to work lawn care/landscaping/construction/roofing. If your hands and feet are not protected you will feel much worse when working in the elements. Always shake up the bottle and then pour out some liquid. This stuff will go on easy and just let it sit for a day so that the leather can absorb the liquid. After that you should be good to go. Take care of your leather and it WILL LAST a good long time. You might be able to buff a BIT of a shine but don't expect a high polish. Use a horse hair shoe shine brush to keep your boots clean. After a couple of days you can try a bit of shoe polish/paste. Again don't expect a high polish. The neatsfoot oil Is meant to Repel/ward off water and may not exactly waterproof your item. The more you use the neatsfoot oil the more it will absorb into your item and the more water repellent it becomes. Over a relatively short period of time(week-month) depending on your item, you will be able to get the stiffness out of it and the more comfortable it will feel. I do recommend this but with this advice, if you want waterproof boots look for the ones that have the waterproof tag. One other thing. This oil WILL DARKEN light color leather. And I do mean DARKEN to an almost black/Really dark brown. This stuff does work.
