It features a built-in exterior wall cap/vent which reduces install time, no duct work needed. Customize your fan with one of Broan-NuTone’s wall controls. From the Manufacturer In the midst of the Great Depression, two aggressive young men emerged with two new products that would make major contributions to the housing industry. In 1932, Henry Broan developed and manufactured a kitchen fan called the Motordor Fan that provided quiet and efficient kitchen ventilation. Review: DIY’er - I did a little research before buying this fan. My bathroom was built without a fan in it and there was no way to out one above the existing shower. So the only way was through the wall to the outside. My house was built in 1952 so the walks are thicker. I honestly didn’t look at the instructions that came with it as I already had a plan. Cut out the hole on both sides. Put the outside hood in first. Once that was done I seen that it didn’t go all the way through. I was nervous but once I put the fan in there is holes for this purpose for how ever thick your wall may be. I bought the switch fan and everything turned out great. Super happy with this product and will probably buy another one for my other bathroom. The only down side is the fan is a little noisy but I don’t care my bathroom no longer has any steam in it anymore from the shower.

**Q: Can this fan be connected to a wallswitch?**
A: Yes, of course it could be.  In that case, both the wall switch and the onboard rotary switch would have to be turned on for the fan to run.  You could leave the onboard switch in the ON position, then use the wall switch to control the fan.  A simpler solution would be to buy the Broan Model 509 fan, which is the same unit  m i n u s  the built-in switch, intended to be used with a wall switch.  It also costs around $10 less. **Q: does this fan have a continuous duty motor**
A: I can only comment on the Broan 509 and the specs on their site spec sheet say "Continuous Operation: No".

Also, the speed controller cannot be used with Impedance protected fans, and yet Broan suggest it for the install.

**Q: How can we vary the speed of this fan to facilitate rates of air exhaust?**
A: Yes it Can. After talking to a Broan rep he stated a speed control. I suggest this one.

I did a little research before buying this fan. My bathroom was built without a fan in it and there was no way to out one above the existing shower. So the only way was through the wall to the outside. My house was built in 1952 so the walks are thicker. I honestly didn’t look at the instructions that came with it as I already had a plan. Cut out the hole on both sides. Put the outside hood in first. Once that was done I seen that it didn’t go all the way through. I was nervous but once I put the fan in there is holes for this purpose for how ever thick your wall may be. I bought the switch fan and everything turned out great. Super happy with this product and will probably buy another one for my other bathroom. The only down side is the fan is a little noisy but I don’t care my bathroom no longer has any steam in it anymore from the shower.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Replacement for old Nutone through the wall fan

We are renovating our kitchen and did not want to remove the old Nutone through the wall fan but rather to replace with a newer model. This replacement fan was the answer. It is hard wired in and did take a little modification but it did the trick. However, there are some cons about this fan. It is much more powerful than my original fan and therefore much more noisy. However, it does move a lot of air in a short period of time. Secondly, the grille is made out of plastic. This is disappointing because something that is so permanent should be made out of metal that can be painted the same color as your wall. I would gladly have paid a few more dollars for metal versus cheap flimsy plastic. All in all it was a good solution. Incidentally, the reason I purchased this fan is because the original fan has been in the home since it was built (40 years ago). The only reason I replaced it was because of its age and obvious rust from years of use. This goes to show that Nutone made quality products. The price was good and included shipping.
