Great vacuum with just one problem.
This is the best vacuum I've bought to deal with pet fur. It picked up much more fur than I thought was in the room. The vacuum is a little heavier than it looks, but it turns very easily which made going around corners easy. It comes with two tools, a crevice tool and a brush, on the vacuum is a caddy for just one tool that is already attached. In the box is the caddy for two tools, so you have to remove and replace the one tool caddy for the two tool caddy. The vacuum cleaned the carpet like a champ. It picked up more fur from my long haired cat than I could see. You just have to remember that the brush had an on/off switch, so remember to turn it on.The crevice tool worked great in cleaning along side the wall and in tight spaces and the light on it let you see what you were doing. Just one tip, be sure when using the tools you are behind the vacuum or you lose the length of the house. The brush tool works great for cleaning the curtains. If you have a cat you know that the curtains get lots of fur on them. The brush tool took that fur right off. It also did a very good job of cleaning the cat's bed. This vacuum picked up everything, fur to the bits of litter the cat leaves around as well as the dust and dirt a vacuum should clean up.The only real problem is that there is no extender wand. You have to buy it from Bissell. It's not expensive, but it should come with the vacuum. The vacuum should also come with a place to put the extender wand.Because you have to buy the wand direct from Bissell, I give this 4.5 stars. It would easily come in at 5 stars if it had the wand.ETA: I had to update this review and increase this to a 5 star rating. Yesterday the vacuum had its first real test. It was time to change the cat's litter box to a new one. If you have ever done that, you know it can get messy. Once the old litter box was put in a garbage bag, much of the old litter had spilled on the floor. The vacuum on bare floor mode cleaned it all up no problem. The wand was able to clean out the corners, and the floor was cleaner than any broom could do. After the bare floor I changed it back to carpet, and cleaned up the carpet all without having to empty the canister. The canister emptied very easily. And I was done cleaning up.This vacuum is amazing. Strong suction, the tools worked well, and it kept going. After that display, I can overlook the missing extender arm. But one should be included in future models or as an add on here at Amazon. After that I did suggest this vacuum to a friend who has a dog that sheds like crazy, and a long haired cat.

Perfectly deisgned for pet owners
UPDATE- 1/16/17 - Bissell replaced this for me after just six months, when it started making a high-pitched noise after running for about 4-5 minutes. Verified that it was not losing suction, so it had to be the motor. They provided free return shipping via Fedex (wish I had saved the box), but it was a chore taking this apart to fit into an available box I had. I was led to believe the new unit would not be shipped until they received the broken one, but apparently they shipped the replacement upon verficication that the old one was on its way to them. Was without the vacuum for six days only. Not too bad.For those who complain about suction, I always keep the floor setting on "bare floor" since my carpets are not deep pile. The suction is excellent - nothing left behind. Yes, it is heavy, but it does the job and is easy to empty (often three-four times when vacuuming the whole house). Features I wish it had? A retractable cord and a light. The light on the crevice wand is nice, but the wand itself has a tip too thick to get into narrow crevices. So I use the brush attachment along floor edges instead.ORIGINAL REVIEW POSTED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE:After having a housekeeper come to clean every two weeks for the past 20+ years, I decided it was high time to take matters into my own hands. We have two non-shedding miniature schnauzers and four kitties who enjoy our upholstered furniture even more than we do, so this Bissell pet-inspired vacuum looked like just the ticket for us to keep up with normal vacuuming and cat-fur on the furniture. Ordered on Wednesday, received today (2 days), the most difficult aspect of this purchase was pulling the vacuum out of its box, wherein it was tightly secured. Once done, manual read, I proceeded post-haste to vacuum the bare floors, the carpeted areas, and then switched to the hand-held tools for stairs and upholstery. Loved almost every aspect of this tool - especially the ease of switching from floor-mode to hand-held mode. My only gripe, and not enough to remove a star from this review, is that the LED lighted crevice tool is not nearly narrow enough to do a good job between baseboard and carpet. So for that I used the hand-held pet brush instead, and all worked well. Empyting the container was a breeze and, as advertised, the ball of fur came out intact without my having to dig in to grab it (as I used to with my cheaper Hoover bagless vacuum). I'm a very conscientious and crtical consumer and can safely say after one day's use that this vacuum is worth every penny I spent on it, and with a 5-year warranty, I expect it will be the workhorse I need.

Very good overall machine
FINALLY, a vacuum cleaner that does most of the things it claims in particular Pet Hair Eraser and “Tangle-Free Brush Roll; Goodbye hair-wrap.” After years of dealing with vacuum cleaners that do live up to their names (like the over rated and expensive D* one), I am so glad to find one that works very well and decently priced. We have five long haired large German Shepherds (aka Shedders) who are all house dogs plus household members with long hair. It was a constant battle of cutting way the hair that got tangled in the rollers after we vacuumed. We limited the amount of carpeted areas in our house and the majority of it is laminate, tile or hardwood. Using a broom always to clean floors can lead to a lot of floating dust and hair and therefore we prefer to vacuum instead of sweeping. We found this Bissel have strong section which helped with cleaning. The enclosed attachments, a lighted crevice tool and Pet turbo easer, small mini beater for upholstery or stairs, are great accessories. The upright unit has a swivel head assembly which helps getting around furniture but overall the unit tends to be a bit on the heavy side. The length of the cord is long enough that you don’t constantly have to be searching for an outlet when just in one room. The overall noise level during operation is a lot lower than expected especially when compared to other vacuum we have had. There is no bags to replace, just a canister to dump which is larger than most on similar upright vacuums of this type. However I still found that the dumping of the canister can be a bit messy even with the easy release setup. The emptying of the canister seems always to great a slight dust cloud especially if the canister is fairly full. On occasion still have had to use a utensil to remove some of what had collected (including a sock). Therefore the stated” Patented Cyclonic Pet Hair Spooling System for a Hands-Free Empty” is not always what it seems to imply. I like that you can “disconnect” the hose very easily to use the attachments. However this is where the vacuum fails in my opinion. The hose has a lot of reach but would really like if solid wand attachment was included. One is needed to increase the reaching distance especially when one wants to remain in a standing position without extra bending over or stretching up or out when using the tools. Standard wand extensions do not fit this Bissel hose and will to find out if and where I can order one from. The build of the vacuum is very sound and solid. Except for the lack of wand extender, overall I am pleased with the performance of this Bissel Pet Hair Eraser and would recommend it.

Perfect for our hairy home!
Works great! Previous vacuum broke down and needed a new one. We have a dog with black hair who sheds constantanly. I was looking for something that would get all the hair out but that didn't give me the problems of a tangled roller or loses suction over time. Vaccumed the whole place, changing the canister twice. In the third pass the canister was EMPTY! Febreeze filter is a nice touch. Very strong the first use but leaves the place smelling fresh and clean after each use. Has different settings depending on height of carpet so it will work no matter what type you have. Vacuum is easy to operate and works well! Definitely would recommend.

I was surprised at how effortlessly easy it was to assemble as no tools were required
Upon receiving my complimentary Bissell 1650A Pet Hair Eraser, I was excited to put it to the test so I began assembling it right away. I was surprised at how effortlessly easy it was to assemble as no tools were required, and it only took a couple of minutes!. The look of the vacuum is very nice also. I love that it's compact, has a place for all the tools so that they don't get lost, and that it has a clear dirt tank so you can see EXACTLY how well it's working. I have two dogs and two females in the house with super long hair, and this thing sucked it ALL up. I had no idea that my carpets were holding that much hair!!! The best part is the hair didn't wrap or tangle around the brush roll! Literally not one hair got wrapped around, which means no more cutting hair off the brush roll. Even my expensive central vac gets hair caught and has to be cut out on a monthly basis. The Febreze air filter is a great touch as well! The fresh scent that it leaves in the room is very satisfying after spending time cleaning the house. I really like the fact that it works on all surfaces and gets into to all the little nooks and crannies. The LED crevice tool is probably my favourite accessory though. The direct light and sleek shape made it so much easier for me to clean between cushions, in corners, along cracks, and pick up anything I might have missed. Although I found the vacuum slightly heavy at first, the swivel handle and vacuum head made it easy to use and maneuver. Very well made vacuum!
