It can be applied lightly to achieve a somewhat sheer effect, but since I have some skin issues, I like the fact that I can use it to cover them. It's more expensive than some powders, but in my estimation, it is well worth the extra cost. I also like the liquid foundation, and can use the powder to "set" the foundation too.
