It's ideal for my setup. **Q: Does this monitor have to be charged or does it run off of battery?** A: You have to by a battery and a battery adapter seperate, other wise it has to be plugged into an outlet **Q: What battery adapter and battery can I purchase to run this when I am not near a plug?** A: It isn't set up to take a battery directly. The DC power input is via a coaxial power plug, and the unit runs on 12V DC. A diagram with the polarity is printed on the device, next to the power input. **Q: Will it likely plug and play without needing to install drivers on Windows 7?** A: The monitor does not need Windows drivers but it has only composite video and HDMI inputs. Versatile inputs, and a clear image, although, there isnt much in the way of adjustment or color correction as far as white balance of the display goes, it runs a tad bluish to my tastes (cold white) . There are lots of uses for this little screen, but "rugged service monitor" is NOT one of them. I found it handy for focusing security cameras, computing, general display test screen. The screen is fragile, and mine broke from a fall, while in an unprotected bag with other gear, totally my fault.
