I put the trainer in my mouth, just position my tongue on the roof of my mouth, and then (here's where it's hard to explain) I just kind of suck in my cheeks and it creates a vacuum. Then my tongue stays up until I open my mouth or move my tongue around too much. I guess that breaks the vacuum. That seems to be the trick, making a vacuum in your mouth. I recently had surgery to move my jaws forward to stop snoring and sleep apnea. While the surgery successfully treated that, in my healing process I wanted to retrain my brain to breath through my nose while sleeping. This thing is supposed to do that by both helping your lips seal and by blocking all air leakage into your mouth so you can breathe only through your nose. Unfortunately, it doesn't do either. It actually prevents my lips from sealing, and air easily leaks through it into my mouth.
