It is marked phosphate free. **Q: How often should the milk system be cleaned** A: On my Jura S8 the milk system needs to be cleaned about every 2 weeks using the cleaning pellets. If you keep up with this then you should be able to defer deep cleaning to 1x each month. For deep cleaning you need to disassemble the foaming mechanism and make sure that there is no milk residue blocking the orifice or tortuous path that makes that wonderful foam. I can tell when the disassembly is required by noting the height of the foam after a tablet cleaning; if the foam is at least 3x the height of the water pumped through the cleaning cycle then you do not need to disassemble. Note that there are 5 parts to the disassembled foamer. The handle does come out and this will reveal damaging milk accumulation. It is difficult to remove the handle the first few times. Good luck! **Q: How do you open the container for the first time?** A: Remove the lid, and the bottle is sealed underneath. Remove the seal. Refills are available (90g and 180g) so always retain the dispenser lid.
