I invested in both thought because the case helps me keep the earplugs and lanyard in one place that I can easily carry (which is good cuz I lose things easily). Also, the lanyard has helped me more than once at events and concerts when I got jostled in a crowd. Yes, it added to the initial cost, but both have been worth the added investment and paid of themselves in security and convenience. **Q: Did this come with the lanyard** A: If memory serves me correctly (and in looking at the box my DECIBULLZ came in), NO the lanyard was separate.
