The bags resemble sturdy zip-lock or similar bags except that they have a small port near the zip closure. The port is intended to be a one-way valve that permits use of the suction device to remove air from the bag after it has been sealed. Neither the packaging nor the bags give any information regarding what kind of plastic is used for the manufacturing of the bags.The idea sounds great but the execution is less than ideal.The suction device works only when the bag is pressed against a flat surface; this is mentioned in the instructions. It can be difficult to maintain the seal between the suction device and the bag. It difficult to remove the air from the bag without removing any of the liquid contents.If those were the only issues I would give this a 4 star rating.Unfortunately the bags themselves do not appear to hold up well with use. I used one of the bags for the second time this evening and the suction port came apart during the clean-up process, Without a functional port it is not possible to use the suction mechanism to remove air and it is also not possible to seal the bag adequately to prevent entry of air or water while cooking.Now that I am aware of just how fragile the bags are I may be able to figure out how to clean them thoroughly without putting any pressure on the suction port. That remains to be seen.This could be a great product if the parts were better constructed and easier to use and clean. These bags were perfect for what I was doing, which was cooking an entire chicken and an entire duck via sous vide. These 1 gallon bags were able to completely envelop both birds and the vacuum pump worked great. You really do have everything within the package (outside of the heating element / thermometer) to do sous vide cooking. In terms of the negative side of things, I did notice that the vacuum wasn't super tight, but the bags held up and seemed to not let in any water when I boiled my birds for 30+ minutes. I would definitely use these bags again if I were to cook or to store food in the freezer. I would just note that you probably will still get some tiny pockets of air with the seal no matter how much air you push out / pump out. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Just use a ziplocks and the submersion method *by Z***R on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on March 6, 2017* You are better off using a zip lock with a double seal and using the water submersion method to get the air out (look it up online). I had several problems with these bags:1. As others have mentioned the mouth of the bag is smaller than the bag itself. That makes it challenging to fit large pieces of meat into the bags.2. The seals themselves are hard to close. And it's hard to tell when they are closed, since they don't have the tactile clicks of ziplocks. If you get any liquid or spices in the seal it won't close properly. This is true of ziplocks as well but it's worse with these bags3. Most importantly the bags leak at the circular vacuum area. I never had water leak in but on several long cooks (12+ hours) I had juice and sometimes chunks of fat spill out of the bag through those holes. I had to abort several cooks because I didn't want chunks of fat clogging up my circulator. In one case when I pulled the bag out fluid was flowing out of the vacuum hole like a spigot. These were not reused bags.
