Tomoe River FP Notebook, 5.85 x 8.27", 160 pages (80-Sheet), 5mm-Squared, White (TMR-A5NB-5HW)

Update: Since my review a year ago I've ordered a few more packages of this paper. I've made a few notebooks now with the 52g/m^2 paper, binding them and using an insert sheet with printed lines for a writing guide. I also write on both sides of the paper. It's quite thin, doesn't bleed, but it's not opaque. I just had to make my lines thicker and darker to show through the writing on the back of the page. Terrific paper.Wonderful paper for fountain pen. This is one of the top 2-3 papers for writing with a fountain pen. Extremely thin--perfect weight for a travel notebook. I make my own notebooks and like to print out light grey lines to help my bad penmanship, but this paper is just too thin to go through the laser printer (a top loading ink jet might work). It doesn't bleed through (I use various Noodler Inks) but it does 'show through.' This show through is faint enough to not be too distracting, but when I write on both sides I just use a dark backing sheet like when you scan or copy something that 'shows through'. Ink takes a bit longer to dry than on more porous laser paper, but I only notice this if I've made pencil marks that I try to erase moments after over writing in ink or I smudge one of the last three lines I've written. So it's like ten seconds with most ink before it won't smudge.Update + three months. I heat bonded 200 sheets of this to some card stock to make a 400 page travel journal. It's almost all filled, held up well. This is thin but very good paper. To help my messy handwriting, I made a lined sheet to place under the page I was writing on. I could see through well enough to keep my lines straight. When I turned my notebook over and started writing pages 200-400 on the back sides, I was concerned that the writing on the other side would obscure the lines. Worked well enough that I'm about to make another notebook.I used an italics nib fountain pen, lays down a lot of ink, Noodler's Polar Blue (Terrific ink absolutely no clogs in three months with minimal maintenance. I think I wiped off the nib a couple of times, and just incase I 'flossed' the feed slot.) Great paper. Almost no smudging unless I smear the ink seconds after I write.No 'blotter' transfer on any of the facing sheets.

This paper is a triple threat. It has a beautiful color in its own right (a very classy, gentle cream); it is the perfect supporter to any ink; it feels fantastic! When I pull a new sheet out of the sleeve, I feel like I almost have to hold my breath because it is the most lovely fluttery paper. It reminds me of Bibles and of the scene in Goodfellas where Paul Sorvino is cutting the garlic into impossibly thin slices that liquefy in the pan.I am new to the fountain pen scene and I am already so pleased to have found a solid choice of paper. Plus I think it's a bargain considering the going rate of this same paper at other retailers.

I was looking for a journal because the seven seas from the nami paper are never available anymore, but I wanted 52 GSM. This is a fantastic journal. It includes blotting paper and even a plastic cover which I won't use but the paper itself is fantastic. Not sure if this is the "New" Tomoe River or still the old stuff but I'm guessing it's the newer batch. Happy to be able to find a journal with fast shipping that's in stock!NOTE: if you have never used this paper you need to be aware that there's a learning curve with it. Ink takes longer to dry, there is usually always ghosting, but it handles watercolors and all different types of mediums incredibly well. It's really wonderful paper.

While this is not a paper for every purpose, it is my new favorite paper. I love writing letters on it, and it handles fountain pens very well. This is a well known thing. Seeing is believing with this paper. It does take a little planning when using this paper as ink does not dry quickly on it, and it is very thin, so more than likely you will be using only one side of the paper, though I have yet to have ink actually bleed through. Even with Noodler's Heart of Darkness and Berning Red, both of which soak in and bleed through other papers, this stuff will just have them pool on the surface. It makes for a beautiful page of writing because the colors stay pretty vibrant. The thin paper does take some getting used to, but it is thin enough to use a guide with lines under the paper to keep things straight.I absolutely love this stuff.

This paper is amazing! So I like to write my friends letters, and like the nerds we are we like to write letters like we're in the 18th century, complete with letter locking and sealing with wax. We were having a heck of a time finding appropriate paper for many reasons. for one, the size was always a problem, as US standard paper sizes are wacky and just not right for folding a sheet in half so you have 4 leafs to write on. This paper is historically correct in terms of size, as it's a quarter sheet of paper (if one were to split an old fashioned full size of paper twice which is what they would have done). My only option for paper similar in size was to buy sheets of art paper, which is costly, and tear them down. The other problem was that in order to not get bleed through so bad you could not read the letter we needed fairly thick paper. As this is meant for calligraphy ink (pen and brush) that isn't much of a problem. All the while remaining thin enough to fold and place in an envelope (unfortunately we can not send the letters without a modern envelope as they are not a size the USPS will accept) without it being super bulky. I will purchase this again!

It's the Tomoe, it's simply the best.

Das Tomoe River Papier ist eines der Lieblingspapiere vieler Füllhalter-Freunde, da beinahe alle Tinten auf ihm ihre beste Seite zeigen, aufleuchten, shaden, es ist einfach eine Freude, auf ihm zu schreiben. Da es sehr dünn ist, scheint die Schrift auf die Rückseite durch, allerdings ohne dass die Tinte direkt durchschlägt, sodass man dennoch gut beide Seiten verwenden kann.Schade, dass es in Europa kein vergleichbares Papier gibt. Die Papiere von Clairefontaine (Rhodia) sind zwar auf ihre Art auch erstklassig und außergewöhnlich, aber wesentlich dicker und daher für andere Einsatzzwecke perfekt.Ich fertige mir aus den losen Blättern Einlagen für meine Midori Traveler Notebooks in der "Regular"- und der "Passport"-Größe, pro Monat ein Heft à 8 Blatt = 32 Seiten, wofür ich einfach einen Streifen von 7 x 21 cm abschneide, den Rest (ca. 22x21 cm) falze, ein festeres Papier als Umschlag verwende und mittels eines Langarmhefters alles zusammenhefte. Aus einem einzigen Block mit 100 Blatt kann ich somit gut 12 Einlagen bauen, das reicht für ein ganzes Jahr.

Tomoe River ist einfach DAS Füllerpapier. Ich weiß nicht, was die Japaner da machen, wie sie es machen und warum anscheinend kein anderer es so macht. DAS IST ES!Egal, welche Tinte, welche Federbreite (auch Pilot Parallel ist kein Problem). Nichts schreibt durch, nichts franzt aus. Mir ist fast schon jeder Schreibfehler peinlich auf so perfektem Papier.Gut, zugegeben, es ist sehr dünn (ähnlich wie das blaue Luftpostpapier, das es früher mal gab) und damit für grobe Behandlung nicht gut geeignet. Und dunkle, breit geschriebene Tinten sieht man auf der Rückseite durchscheinen (nicht durchschlagen, sondern nur gegen einen hellen Hintergrund durchleuchten). Aber ich habe kein anderes Papier, welches ich so bedenkenlos zweiseitig vollschreibe mit allen Federbreiten und allen Farben, die ich möchte. Und statt nur drei Bögen 80g oder 90g - Papier kann man 5 oder 6 Bögen zum Normalporto versenden (falls jemand 0,15€ sparen muss).

A la recherche du Graal, beaucoup de "review" positives m'ont fait acheter ce papier. (livraison en 10j : impeccable)Celle de Matt Armstrong (PenHabit) aura fini d'abattre certains doutes. Je reste quand même un peu sceptique. Après avoir à peu près tout essayer, du pire (autrefois au top) au presque pas mal en dotted, à chaque fois, on trouve une encre, une plume, l'association des deux qui ne va pas. Donc, par dépit, on se résigne à avoir 5 ou 6 marques de papiers différents que l'on utilisera avec certaines encres et certains stylos plutôt que d'autres. Alors un papier de 56g...Eh bien, je ne sais pas si cela relève de la magie ou de la prouesse technologique mais ce papier est une pure merveille. Essayé avec du vintage flex ou non, du moderne ; plumes EF, F, MF, M, B, Stub, Ms, NM, acier ou or ; encres Pilot, Diamine, Sailor, Private Reserve, Pelikan (...) ; tout est absolument rendu à la perfection. Et pour traverser, il faut y aller fort. On peut donc l'utiliser recto-verso sans souci.La seule chose que l'on pourrait lui reprocher c'est d'être trop fin... :) Fallait bien mettre quelque chose de négatif...Achetez-le sans hésiter. 200 pages de bonheur (100 f) en perspective.NB : si vous rechercher ce papier en "bloc", un site aux USA le propose (PaperForFountainPens.com).

Une feuille de garde de même grammage présente succinctement le produit, une autre légèrement cartonnée soutient la liasse.La première impression fut un étonnement quant à la faible épaisseur du paquet, même si j’étais consciente de la finesse du papier, une des particularités de la marque.Les feuilles sont douces et lisses au toucher. Ah ! Ces mains curieuses et baladeuses ne peuvent s’empêcher de les caresser (il faut bien trouver une excuse). En fait, ce geste est un réflexe à la vue de tous papiers (la fille qui s’enfonce !).Très fine, souple, particulièrement nerveuse, la Tomoe River est extrêmement sensible aux manipulations, la marquant facilement. Elle est donc à prendre avec grand soin. Mais elle est solide, ne se déchire pas pour autant sans raison apparente. Quant à sa blancheur, je la trouve toute relative, une fois comparée à une Clairalfa plus blanche. Cela m’a déçu dans la mesure où je préfère une mise en valeur, par un contraste maximal des encres par rapport au papier.La surface est très lisse et délicieusement lustrée. Je m’attendais à une glisse exceptionnelle. Si elle s’avère des plus honorables, je l’ai sentie moins prononcée par rapport à du papier français de haut grammage. Ce qui influe probablement sur le résultat des sensations.Une chose est manifeste : une encre des plus fluides (J. Herbin) ne fuse pas. Lorsque d’ordinaire elle s’étale empâtant les tracés, ceux laissés sur la feuille Tomoe River semblent être contenus. Comme si une barrière les entoure. L’effet est homogène. J’ai pu remarquer un peu d’ombrage avec une encre qui d’ordinaire est assez réservée sur ce point. Les contours des sillons sont plus nets et donnent un certain relief visuel aux écrits. L’effet me sidère agréablement.L’encre ne transperce pas la feuille. La lisibilité des écrits est préservée, d’un recto à un verso du papier. J’utilise des plumes extra-fine européenne et medium-fine japonaise à encrage de moyenne intensité. La qualité du papier est identique, que ce soit aux rectos comme aux versos. Ce qui n’est pas toujours le cas pour d’autres marques.La transparence du papier permet une très bonne visibilité à travers un guide-lignes.La feuille Tomoe River est indomptable : très fine, souple et nerveuse, elle s’écroule entre les doigts. J’aime écouter son bruissement, ses notes claquent, aussi aigues que la délicatesse et la légèreté la caractérisent.Quinze euro la centaine coupent court à la poésie. Mais le baptême « Tomoe River » a enfin eu lieu. Il faut bien redescendre sur terre. J’en tire un avantage lors de l’affranchissement des correspondances.Afin de préserver ce trésor de performances papetières, j’ai dû renforcer le dessous du paquet avec un carton plus épais. L’emballage pelliculé est très fragile. Déjà dessoudé sur un côté et déchiré par endroit, des bandes adhésives ont été posées.Tomoe River est une des marques les plus appréciées des amoureux de stylos-plumes. Je me devais de la connaître : sa réputation est à la hauteur de cet enthousiasme.Edit : Deuxième commande effectuée pour moins de dix euros, c'est déjà beaucoup mieux ;-)
