A: These are solid headphones and can be used for studio mixing. They are similar to Sony 7506s in body, design, and material but their eq is different. I use these for live recording dialog for video and film and live audio mixing contemporary worship. A: The cables are proprietary.  The kit comes with a straight 3 foot cable and a long 10 foot cable.  If you happen to break one, it's not expensive to get a replacement.
