## Description

A group of aliens have come to Earth to learn about its population, customs, etc. To avoid detection, they have taken on human form which gives them human emotions, physical needs etc. WITHOUT the understanding of what they mean or the inhibitions normally present in humans. Their leader takes the position of a college professor, their military expert as his sister, their intelligence expert, supposedly oldest of group takes form of his teenage son. The uninhibited reactions turn everyday events into unusual situations.

Review: One of the most hilarious sitcoms ever -- very poorly handled by NBC - This group of "aliens" to the planet Earth are hilarious. It's difficult to pick out a favorite among them. Of course Dick (whose name is used quite a bit in some riskque episode titles) played by Lithgow is terrific, Sally the lady who is practically an desertcart is great in her role, Harry is one of my favorites simply because he's so goofy and comes out with a profundity every now and then, and Tommy, the oldest among them gets to be the youngest in an Earth body. It fared okay its first season; but then NBC started juggling this show around in its lineup--making something like 17 time slot changes in its six year run--how could it ever get a consistent audience like that? Trust me, unless you're very prudish about some of the risque comments made tongue-in-cheek, you'll split your sides laughing at the antics of this "squad" of aliens trying to learn more about how people live on Earth. I find the later episodes just as funny as the early ones. Had it been placed more prudently by NBC it would have likely been the "Happy Days" or "Seinfeld" of its time. (Incidentally, Newman of Seinfeld, is "Don" in this series--a policeman with a huge attraction to the very tall-legged Sally!). I can watch it on prime video; but I wanted the DVD's because the price was right, and sometimes the server doesn't get through to prime--and I didn't want anything interfering with my weekly or less dosage of 3rd Rock from the Sun.
Review: Hilarious-Laugh Out Loud Funny - Back in the mid to late 90's when this series originally aired I was just too busy to catch all the episodes. The shows I did catch never failed to make me laugh, so I decided to purchase the complete series and find out what I missed. I'm glad I did. I've just finished the first season and am looking forward to viewing the remaining five. This show is hilarious. Only John Lithgow could pull off his quirky role as Dick Solomon, the High Commander of a group of aliens who have traveled to earth to study what it is to be human. To aid their studies, they all have assumed human form but are completely clueless when it comes to human emotions, social norms and customs, which they now must navigate. Therein lies the humor. I particularly enjoy the interactions between Lithgow and his human love interest, Dr. Mary Albright, who is brilliantly played by Jane Curtin. Lithgow's struggles to identify and cope with his emotions and desires combined with his complete lack of social filters make his attempts to win Curtin's affections really funny stuff. Each season contains 20 or more episodes and there are extras such as bloopers, highlights and cast interviews. In short, the set offers many hours of entertainment.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Defenity worth it!
*by M***. on August 13, 2007*

I had rented the first season from the local video store and found the show to be hysterical. Unfortunately, the video store only had the first season. So I looked '3rd Rock From The Sun' up and came across the seasons 1-6 bundle, which were much cheaper than buying the all of the seasons separately. Some of the bundles weren't very much cheaper but I ended up finding a good deal on one bundle. I saved up the money and eventually ordered it, shocked but happy that the cheaper bundle handed been bought yet. I read what the seller had to say, and considering they were still sealed I figured it was a safe deal. The e-mail that [...] sent me saying that my order had been shipped and was expected to arrive between July 16th and July 23rd. I recieved the bundle on the 16th and was amazed that the item had been delivered so early. I was even more amazed that each season came with a funny booklet of information about the aliens and they're thoughts and fears, four dvds (most including six or seven episodes) and some of the cases "talked" if you pushed a button and season two even came with a set of 3D glasses for two 3D episodes. The designs on the cases were very creative. With all that said I would highly reccomend this item to anyone who enjoys 3rd Rock From the Sun or is looking for a show that is both a comedy and has a sturdy and creative plot. Though, before buying one set I would look around to see if there are any cheaper ones if the seller seems trustworthy.
