I marked and cut the pieces before I began so I had things ready, along with my pie roller (since I did not have a rubber one) and a rubber mallet. If you roll back and forth and pound it well with the mallet, it will not come off. I have some on other steps for two years and they are still in place. It rains a LOT where I live and the wooden steps get quite slippery for people and dogs in the winter. I love these strips as they save a LOT of falls I am sure!
