Developed in detail for the US Air Force, the "E" version of the Phantom II was characterised by an M61 Vulcan cannon positioned in the nose, which is equipped for interception missions with the AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-7 as well as with Sparrow air-to-air missiles.
