I have not seen how well it handles being really cold. It is hard plastic and may crack. But playing with my crossbow, I quickly converted my rarely used camera monopod into a gun monopod. It goes on easily, has a metal insert for the threads and the V is wide enough for both my rifle forearm and my crossbow. The inside of the V is relatively smooth so I don't think it will scratch a gun. There isn't a lot to say except I was able to use it on my Bogan camera tripod and an old camera Monopod.
