Review: Good for storing produce, essential for making tempeh at home - These are terrific bats with a matrix of tiny perforations that allow the bag to breathe. I am sure the bags work well for produce, but I use them exclusively for making my own tempeh. I use a 50-50 mix of cooked beans/lentils and cooked intact whole grains. The combination of these two, along with the tempeh fungus (Rhizopus oligosporus) that binds them together, serves as a meat substitute in chili, stir-fries, stews, and similar dishes. The bags allow the tempeh to breathe and hold the beans and grains together until the tempeh fungus makes it a solid slab. My latest batch was chickpea and rye; my favorite combination so far is black lentil and purple barley. The combination of black beans and black rice is also good. The bags are indispensable. Nothing else works so well. When the tempeh is done (after 3 days), I cut the bag off, so for making tempeh, each bag is used once. For storing vegetables, a bag can be used multiple times.
