The thing is what is the actual thickness of the wire with coating you are using. If is less than the thickness of 10-gauge wire and you are not concerned about damaging the coating, then should work. Give it a try and see if you are satisfied. **Q: Can I use this on coated wire?** A: It can be used on coated wire as long as you strip the insulation off first. **Q: Do I need the tool for snugging up 14 gauge wire for a blackberry trellis? Also how to get the release pin?** A: I did not use any tool to snug up the wire just brute physical strength with pliers or you could use a vise grip. The tool available to do this would however work very well. 'The release pin came with the set of gripples I bought.
