The docks are kept open by de-icers and I wanted something to provide a visual warning to snowmobilers that race back and forth on the lake ice, often at night. So far, this light has performed well in temperatures that reach overnight lows of minus -15F. The light isn't super bright, but it's strong enough that it can be seen from 150 to 200 yards away. I think if it was brighter, it would go out sooner and not last the better part of the night. From personal observation, it comes on at sunset (5PM) and lasts well past 2AM. I haven't stayed up late enough to see when it actually shuts off. It could be closer to 4AM.
